קַרְיָינָא, קַרְיָנָאm. (קְרֵי I) 1) one able to read in the Bible. Kidd.49a על מנת שאני ק׳ כיוןוכ׳ if one betrothes a woman with the condition ‘that I am a ḳaryana, she is betrothed as soon as he can read three verses in the synagogue. Ib. והני מילי דאמר ק׳וכ׳ this is the case only when he says ḳaryana, but if he says ḳara, v. קַרָא. 2) one who dictates a letter. Snh.82a, a. fr., v. פַּרְוַונְקָא. -
